Set in Connecticut on the Fourth of July, 1906, the play follows the Miller family, focusing on Richard Miller, an idealistic 16-year-old who is intoxicated by poetry, politics, and first love. He’s in love with Muriel, the daughter of a conservative neighbor, and quotes Swinburne and Marx while dreaming of romance and revolution.
